Easter at Wynndean…

The smell of chocolate is in the air, the days are shortening and the tides are swelling… can only mean Easter and Autumn is here! We love Autumn in Wynndean and it’s a highlight seeing our guests heading out on an early morning walk, smiling from a post surf session, reading a book in the shade or sharing a sundowner drink with their home away from home, neighbours.

We look forward to seeing many of you down enjoying the Park, the beach and Ocean Grove over the coming months.

Care- Friendly Easter Reminders/To Do’s!

A reminder to all guests the following is required prior to heading home at the end of the Easter Holidays-

  • Roll up artificial grass

  • Take down fairy lights

  • Remove clothes lines

  • Ensure clear access down the sides of vans and annexes

  • Put away umbrellas, gazebos, bikes and boards from outside vans/annexes.

We kindly remind all guests that these activities are essential to allow our team and contractors to safely access all sites for future tree trimming and site maintenance.

Artificial grass is required to be rolled up to allow grass to regrow for site stability, drainage and vegetation growth.

If you are unable to take up your turf and securely store it, you can engage Craig from Salt Water Property Management to assist you with this. Many guests used this service last year and were happy with Craig’s assistance. Please register your interest with the Office. Alternatively, if any remain left out our contractor will roll, store & charge accordingly.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Electricity-

Please be mindful of overloading your van’s electricity supply with using air fryers and outdoor electric heaters. Caravan electricity supply is not the same as your household usage and only one appliance should be used at a time in your van.

You might like to look here at our website for electricity trouble shooting tips.

Security- Regular News

Hard Rubbish & items for donation-

Once again this Easter we are happy to collect recyclable hard rubbish items which we will recycle and/or donate to charity organisations, where possible. This includes old BBQs, bikes, fridges. These items can be left at the front of your site and you can notify the office. Please do not leave them at bin stops.

We can also deliver bins to your site for small, non recyclable items.

In an effort to reduce landfill, we do not accept items that cannot be recycled such as old couches and these need to be privately disposed of. Another alternate is to use our Wynndean Guest Facebook group to swap/sell these items within the Wynndean community.

To assist you may request a collection from our website Hard Rubbish Collection Request — Wynndean

Gas Services

Wynndean provides a gas delivery, connection and test service for in date 9kg and 45kg bottles. Gas bottles are available from 9-5pm. To avoid running out mid-dinner or with shampoo in your hair (!!), keep an eye on your bottle and we will happily replace it during business hours. You can also request Gas Bottles here via the form on our website-

Environment- Importance of Vegetation at Wynndean

In a recent newsletter we discussed the vegetation overlay that governs Wynndean management of trees and vegetation. For those of you who might have missed it, we’ve included this information again below:

“As you may be aware, Wynndean is governed by several vegetation overlays that control activities within the Park including tree trimming and use of paving and concrete. While all of the vegetation within the Park has been planted and nurtured by our family and team for over 75 years, we must adhere to the following in accordance to the overlays:

• Vegetation including trees must not be trimmed, lopped or removed by Guests. Wynndean managers all vegetation in accordance with our approved Vegetation Management Plan. This is enforceable by our Park Rules.

• Storm water (surface water) must be retained on site. This can only be achieved by restricting hard surface coverage (structures/pavers artificial grass etc), and providing strategic soakage pits. We do not have gutters along the roadsides to allow the water to runoff to the sides.

The whole area of Wynndean is sand that in places is over 11mt deep above the bedrock. The water table in areas is less than 6 ft below the surface. The trees in the area depend on this water table and the threat to the water table of recent Council works (New roads and gutters that take all surface water away to the River and Ocean) has already left a legacy of lost trees.

We all value our trees as part of the physical environment of Wynndean, (you may notice many trees around the Park are propped rather than removed) and although the last couple of years has provided above average rainfall, we know that there are dry years ahead. If the vegetation is to survive then we must be pro-active and ensure sufficient permeable surface throughout the Park to maintain the surface water that is the lifeblood of many of the trees. Likewise, these trees provide shelter for our guests and habitat for native birds and animals. Who has experienced being woken to the sound of a possum running across their roof!?

So with this information in mind, we kindly remind you to discuss any vegetation queries you have with us.

This propped gnarly ti-tree is estimated to be over 70 years old.

Respect and Family
- Celebrating our Guest History

Wynndean has a rich 79 year history spanning the early beginnings of a holiday resort to migrant camp in the 1940’s and 50’s and buzzing family holiday spot for many families.

A huge highlight and thrill for our Wynndean family is when past guests call back into Wynndean to visit, reconnect and reminisce. We’ve had a number of past guests who have visited the Park recently, some who stayed in the Park as children and some whose parents and grandparents stayed at the Park. Three generations from one family, who recently visited Wynndean from interstate were able to retrace with John and David the old site area where their Mother, Wife and Grandmother, Sissy stayed in the 1950’s. Sissy was a newly arrived Australian from Holland. One of many families who started their new life in Australia at Wynndean.
Our guests are the heart of our business. Some of whom are returning families, across generations and have had stays for over 50 years! Whether you experienced Wynndean for a Summer or have connections which span decades, we would love to hear from you. We are currently writing and collating a history book to share with our guests and would love to hear from anyone who would like to contribute and share your family’s Wynndean story. This might be a wonderful way to honour loved ones and share with us your special and unique slice of Wynndean history. We have joined with Born and Bred Historical research to collate some of these amazing stories.

If you or someone you know might be interested in sharing their story, would like you to join our Past Guest Group on Facebook or complete the online story survey, you can click below.
